Some Federal Way Councilwomen Who Have Been Nice or Somewhat Nice

I want to thank Dini Duclos, the councilwoman in Position 7, for her support for my 2014 Congressional campaign in the 9th Congressional District.  She and Councilwomen Kelly Maloney (now, former councilwoman) and Susan Honda are among the handful of Establishment people that have been nice to me.  I can see either one of these three competent women being the next Federal Way mayor some day. -- Mark Greene, Candidate for Federal Way City Council, Position 1 [Revised on 2/12/17.]

Amiable Follower

Lydia Assefa-Dawson has an amiable personality and is a good fit for her non-political work in the social services field, but Federal Way citizens might want to reevaluate whether she should remain on the Federal Way City Council that she was appointed to, when the November 3rd election comes around. In her year and a half on the Council, she has not taken a single initiative of anything of significance relating to her position on the Council. Also, it is pretty much widely known around City Hall that she is clueless regarding the nuts and bolts of administering a city of almost a hundred thousand people, not to mention whether she has the temerity that's necessary to give orders to department heads and other subordinates. One journalist, though it couldn't have been a pleasant task for him, had the integrity to point out the stark truth about Assefa-Dawson's general cluelessness when it comes to city affairs. Journalism has to be the most difficult of wo...

The Environment & Federal Way

If elected to Council, I will propose an Environmental Mapping Project,  maybe with a different name but the same effect, as this will put increased focus on Federal Way's environmental standards, including the quality of water, sewer and storm drainage infrastructure, littering and graffiti problems, contingency plans for natural disasters, and so forth.  The list, of course, could be in the scores, but you get the idea. My plan will include putting this new agency under an existing commission, or perhaps making it a separate commission unto itself, and dividing Federal Way into 20-or-so equal geographical areas, not divided evenly by population, but by square mileage or some other spatial measure.  Each of these twenty areas will then have an environmental steward of its very own, which would essentially be a volunteer position, although regular stipends would be paid by the City.  Stewards would be responsible for researching information pertine...

F.W. LIBERALISM

As an economic-liberalist, the electoral coalition that may elect me to Council, can transcend the power of the people into effective governmental policies by the City of Federal Way.  Policies such as a campaign finance ordinance that would help F.W. commoners with the financial wherewithal to run competitive, or at least credible, campaigns for Council/F.W. offices-in-general.  Homestead credits for homeowners and tax rebates/refunds for renters, a la Minnesota state;  rooming provisions for persons without homes, educational mobility and job stabilization centers, and disabled and elderly care informational/help centers, to name a few.  Help Federal Way do our part in leading America out of post-20th century stagnation to 21st century robustness. -- Mark Greene, candidate for Federal Way City Council (Position 1)   [Originally posted on the Revived Citizens Party ...

Third Party Dilemma

Tweedle-dum or tweedle-dee, or pure idealism, or just plain idealism?  It never ceases to amaze us how America, of all nations, is so reluctant to do something as minimal as peacefully and civilly announcing a "pox on both their houses" when it comes to the pretty much corrupt major political parties, here, and merely vote for virtually anything that says I'm not a part of them, meaning whatever available third parties and independents there are.  Yet, third parties do dreadfully poorly as voters willfully play musical chairs between the Democrats and the Republicans, and therein goes the puzzle inside the dilemma.  Do third parties persist in spite of the practically mind-boggling poor election numbers or should they just take on an "if you can't beat them, join them" posture even though the latter is something akin to self-flagellation?  Actually, most of the minor  parties are themselves to blame by taking on a de...

Possible Candidate for Vacant 30th District Seat

Remembering Roger Freeman: 1965 - 2014 Now that the memorial for Roger Freeman, the deceased, widely respected state representative of the 30th District, transpired a week ago, discussions about who will fill the vacant 30th District representative seat will be going forward in full swing.  First, there will be an appointment to fill the vacancy, but there also has to be an election in November of 2015.  The Revived Citizens Party has come close to recruiting a young, politically active woman to run for the seat next year, but there is no firm decision, yet, as of Nov. 30, 2014.   For now, we will keep her name under the radar until she makes an announcement, but her possible advancement into elective politics as a third party candidate would surely be a welcome change from the corporate-shilling, anti-union "Democratic-Republican Party."  For decades, now, the shift of wealth from the lower and middle cl...

The Common Citizens' Voting Guide

Democracy in Election Process and the Respect for Mother Nature Committee of Washington finally got tired of seeing all of these fake progressive voting guides on the internet and decided to create a reliable one.  We will only endorse real economic or environmental progressives, not Democratic Party hacks, "Boll Weevils" and "Blue Dogs."  In fact, we prefer third parties or independents over those who identify with major parties, but sometimes that option is just not available because of the dearth of alternative candidates, so we consider all parties for our picks.  This blog was created on August 1, 2014, and our first official election endorsement is, as follows: Endorsement for November 4, 2014 General Election Ashley McCormick (Citizens) (write-in), U.S. Representative, Congressional District 9
